What was your first bicycle, bicycle ride like . . .

Contributed by Peter

So much of our lifes are shaped around how we learned to ride a bicycle and that relationship thereafter. Bicycles gave us a sense of freedom, ability to get around and pride in something that was all ours.

I still remember my first bicycle. It was deep green and had ape hanger handlebars and a used banana seat. I don’t know where my parents got the bike but it had obviously been well used before I ever received it. Nonetheless I loved that bike. I put playing card in the spokes to make it sound like a motorcycle and oiled the chain almost every day.

I suppose I must have been about 8 years old when my mother put a lawn chair down in the front yard, showed me a willow she had just broke off a tree and said, “today you are going to get on that bike and ride”. Amazing enough I did just that and I never stopped. Go fiqure.

So answer these two questions if you dare . . . what was your first bicycle like and how did you learn to ride. Dare ya . . . Double dare ya . . .
